Type 3c Diabetes

In addition to type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes, there are several other, lesser-known types of diabetes.

Type 3c diabetes develops due to damage to the pancreas, which can occur for a variety of reasons. Type 3c can also be referred to as diabetes associated with pancreatic dysfunction or pancreatogenic diabetes.

What causes type 3c diabetes?

Type 3c diabetes can occur when the pancreas is damaged and stops producing enough insulin for the body. We all need insulin to live because it allows glucose from the bloodstream to enter our cells and provide us with energy. If you have type 3c diabetes, your pancreas may have stopped producing the enzyme you need to digest food.

Conditions associated with type 3c:

  • acute pancreatitis
  • chronic pancreatitis
  • pancreatic cancer
  • cystic fibrosis
  • hemochromatosis

Type 3c can also develop if your pancreas is removed due to any other injury.

Symptoms of type 3c diabetes:

  • weight loss without a structured weight-loss plan
  • stomach pain
  • a feeling of being more tired than usual
  • frequent winds
  • diarrhea
  • greasy or oily mud
  • hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar

Diagnosis of Type 3c Diabetes

There isn’t enough awareness about Type 3c, which could mean you’ll receive a misdiagnosis. However, keep in mind that Type 3c is associated with pancreatic problems.

Managing Type 3c Diabetes Ensuring proper management of Type 3c diabetes can be a challenge. According to current clinical guidelines, Type 3c diabetes is treated with metformin or insulin.
