Aglurab are relatively mild medications, but they have a beneficial long-term effect on the vascular system, blood clotting, digestion, and gut flora. If you need stronger medications (even just as a temporary measure), the easiest option is to choose one from the sulfonylurea class, which your doctor is also familiar with (Gliclada, Diaprel, Amaryl, NovoNorm). You can arrange in advance for your doctor to prescribe a few boxes, and if your blood sugar does turn out to be higher than you fear, you can take these medications in addition to Aglurab for at least a week or two after surgery, until you’re back to your normal level of activity.
